Rogalsky, T. “Acceleration of Differential Evolution for Aerodynamic Design.” Ph.D. Thesis. University of Manitoba. 2003.

Appendix A  FanOpt

Two versions of FanOpt are included on the CD:

Ø      in FanOpt v 3.3 (FanOpt33.exe), Immune Acceleration occurs after every generation

Ø      in FanOpt v 3.5 (FanOpt35.exe), Immune Acceleration occurs with same frequency as Hybridization

Best acceleration results were obtained with v 3.5, specifically, HIADE b-b-50-100 10-10-10. (See Chapter 6.)

Documentation

All dialog boxes that control the design algorithm are accessed from the Options menu. Follow the links below for a description of each dialog box.

Ø      Aerodynamic target

Ø      Geometry options

Ø      Optimization options

Ø      Constraints

Ø      Run à click to start optimization

Ø      Quit à click to stop optimization

Ø      Convergence history à not working properly

Installing the software:

1. Most systems will require the following .dll files. Copy them from the “Appendix A FanOpt\dll_files” folder on the CD to your Windows\System folder.

Ø      Mfc42d.dll,  Mfco42d.dll,  Msvcirtd.dll,  Msvcp50d.dll,  Msvcrtd.dll

2. Copy all files from the “Appendix A FanOpt\run_files” folder to your machine. All files must be in the same folder.

Note: The resource files (.r) files store all the current optimization settings. This allows FanOpt to “remember” the most recent settings, and eliminates the need for much keying of data.
